On Sunday morning the screen shows the wrong song, a USB stick will not open, or the laptop in the booth goes to sleep. Most churches that project from a laptop have lived through at least one of these. This guide covers what a worship team needs from its projection setup, and what to check before moving to a browser-based system.
What goes wrong with the usual setup
- Song slides live on one laptop, so only one person can edit them.
- Lyrics are copied from different sources and formatted by hand, slide by slide.
- Bible verses are typed or pasted in a hurry, sometimes in the wrong translation.
- The service plan sits in a chat or a printout, separate from the slides.
- When the person who built the files is away, nobody else can run the screens.
What a worship team needs
- A song library the whole team can use, with lyrics split into readable slides.
- Bible search across the translations your congregation reads.
- A service plan with songs and readings in order.
- Live output to more than one screen, such as the main wall and a stage monitor.
- A simple control view that a volunteer can learn in one rehearsal.
Questions to ask before you switch
- What if the internet drops? A browser-based system needs a connection. Ask what the plan is for a bad network on the day, and test it in the room before a service.
- What hardware do you need? Check that the booth computer, the cables and the screens work with it.
- How do you add songs? Importing lyrics should not mean retyping them.
- Song licensing. Check that your church holds the licence it needs to display song lyrics.
- Who can edit? Decide which team members can change the library and which can only run the screens.
Moving over without disrupting Sunday
- Run the new system in a midweek rehearsal, with the same people who run Sunday.
- Import your most-used songs first, not the whole archive.
- Keep the old setup ready for the first few services.
- Check both screens and the sound desk cues in the room, not on a laptop at home.
How TestifyOS handles this
TestifyOS is our cloud worship projection system. It runs in the browser with nothing to install, with a song library and a public library, Bible search across translations, AI lyric import and formatting, and live projection to multiple screens. See the TestifyOS page or visit testifyos.com.
